Gaza – July 2025
Amal Syam, Director of the Women’s Affairs Center in Gaza, called on all international organizations and the United Nations to intervene urgently to stop the ongoing genocide and systematic starvation imposed by the Israeli occupation on the residents of Gaza since the resumption of attacks in March.
Syam emphasized that the blockade and closure of crossings, including Rafah and Kerem Abu Salem, have disrupted essential services and severely affected humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and fuel—constituting a violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. She added that Israel continues policies of displacement, starvation, water deprivation, and destruction, causing thousands of casualties, including women and children.
She highlighted the dire situation of women and children queuing for bakeries and food centers, while pregnant and breastfeeding women suffer from severe malnutrition, preventing them from producing breast milk or accessing formula. Syam noted that 95% of Gaza’s population faces critical food insecurity, with over 335,000 children at risk of slow death, alongside widespread chronic diseases such as anemia and rickets.
Syam also warned of daily forced displacement, with families repeatedly evicted from their homes, living in tents, destroyed schools, or overcrowded shelters. She stressed that daily bombings target buildings, tents, and shelters, with more than 58,000 fatalities recorded, thousands missing, and over 138,000 injured, 70% of whom are women and children.
In conclusion, Syam called on the international community to immediately halt the genocide, open crossings to deliver food, medicine, fuel, and water, ensure protection for humanitarian convoys and civilians, and conduct an international investigation to hold accountable those responsible for war crimes in Gaza. She concluded: “History will not forgive those who abandoned Gaza and watched it die of hunger.”
