Amal Syam, General Director of the Women’s Affairs Center (WAC), affirmed that Palestinian women continue their journey of resilience and determination. She said the Israeli blockade and ongoing challenges have placed greater burdens on women. However, Palestinian women continue to defend their rights and contribute to their communities.
These remarks were made during an event organized by the Women’s Affairs Center to mark International Women’s Day. The event was held under the theme “With Your Resilience, March Blossoms.” Moreover, it celebrated the determination of Palestinian women and recognized their contributions across different fields.
Amal Syam: The Blockade Has Increased the Challenges Facing Women
According to Amal Syam, years of blockade have deeply affected the lives of Palestinian women. In addition, many women have faced displacement, poverty, unemployment, and growing humanitarian challenges.
She emphasized that Palestinian women have never abandoned their national or social responsibilities. Instead, they have continued to defend their rights and remain committed to justice, dignity, and freedom.
Amal Syam Calls for Stronger Protection of Women’s Rights
Furthermore, Amal Syam stressed the importance of updating national laws and public policies to align with international human rights standards. She also highlighted the importance of implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
At the same time, Amal Syam called for an end to the Palestinian political division. She explained that national unity is essential to improving the lives of women and advancing their rights.
Moreover, Amal Syam urged international organizations and human rights institutions to strengthen their support for Palestinian women. She emphasized the need to expand women’s participation, protect their rights, and increase opportunities for empowerment.
Women’s Affairs Center Continues to Support Palestinian Women
Meanwhile, community activist Faten Harb praised the resilience and creativity of Palestinian women despite years of hardship. She said women continue to achieve success in social, economic, and public life.
Finally, she noted that the Women’s Affairs Center organizes this annual event to highlight women’s achievements and raise awareness of the challenges they continue to face. She added that these initiatives help promote women’s rights and encourage greater community support.
