Gaza – June 2021
The Women’s Affairs Center in Gaza was honored during the 9th edition of the International Human Rights Festival, organized by the National Human Rights Authority in Rabat, Morocco, from June 23 to 27, 2021.
As part of the festival, Amal Syam, General Director of the Women’s Affairs Center, received recognition for her significant role in defending women’s rights and advancing human rights at local, regional, and international levels.
Nabil Gaza, CEO of the National Human Rights Authority, stated: “We invited several global figures to be honored at this festival, and one of the most distinguished was Ms. Amal Syam. Through her impactful fieldwork and advocacy, we witnessed her dedication and leadership in championing human rights and women’s empowerment.”
He also commended the Center’s efforts in media and awareness-raising, particularly the annual short film festival “Through Women’s Eyes”, organized under Syam’s leadership, which aligns with the goals of the International Human Rights Film Festival.
In her remarks, Syam highlighted the significance of receiving such recognition during a difficult time for women in Gaza and across the Arab world amid ongoing violence and instability: “This award is not only for me or the Center but for every Palestinian woman—whether prisoner, wounded, or steadfast—and for every free woman across the Arab world.”
