Gaza – September 2024
The Women’s Affairs Center in Gaza held a digital meeting via Zoom to discuss the report “Challenges and Obstacles Facing Women-Led Rights Organizations in Humanitarian Response During the Gaza War.” The session was attended online by representatives from local and international civil society organizations and other stakeholders.
Amal Syam, Director of the Women’s Affairs Center, emphasized the critical importance of the report, highlighting the main challenges faced by women-led rights organizations in Gaza during wartime humanitarian response. Syam stressed the urgent need to address these obstacles to ensure rapid and effective delivery of emergency services, with a focus on women and the most affected populations.
Syam stated, “This report aims to understand the challenges and obstacles that hinder the operational capacity of women-led rights organizations during the war, including damages to buildings and assets, difficulties faced by staff, and obstacles related to official authorities and funding.”
Reem Al-Bahisi, Media Coordinator at the Center, added: “The report covers challenges related to workplace conditions, staff, mobility, communication, official authorities, funding, participation in cluster groups, safety and security, and interventions by other NGOs.”
This initiative is part of the project “Enhancing the Role of Palestinian Women in Wars and Conflicts,” funded by the Women Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), aiming to support women-led rights organizations and strengthen their capacity to respond effectively during humanitarian crises.
