Gaza – January 2016
The Women’s Affairs Center (WAC) in Gaza concluded its “Training and Employment Opportunities for Female Graduates in Gaza” project, funded by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The eight-month project targeted 50 university graduates from marginalized areas across Gaza.
Amal Syam, WAC Director, highlighted the importance of the project amid high unemployment rates among female graduates, emphasizing that education and work empower women to lead their families towards better lives.
Rashid Al-Razi, ILO National Coordinator in Gaza, praised the center for adhering to project standards and achieving its objectives.
Shireen Rabie, Project Training Coordinator, explained that the initiative responds to difficult economic and social conditions caused by the ongoing blockade and recent Israeli attacks. It aimed to develop personal, technical, and professional skills and prepare graduates to enter the labor market.
Participants received three months of practical training in NGOs and private sector institutions, with a monthly stipend of $300 per graduate, in addition to 110 hours of intensive theoretical training.
A 10-minute short film was produced to document the project’s impact on the graduates and their families, showcasing training and work activities.
