The Women’s Affairs Center held a meeting with Supreme Court Judge Ibrahim Al Najjar to discuss raising the legal marriage age for women to 18, as part of an ongoing campaign to protect women and girls from early marriage.
During the meeting, Amal Syam, General Director of the Center, emphasized the importance of reducing legal exceptions and ensuring girls’ right to education. Judge Al Najjar highlighted the need to update existing laws and raise awareness among parents and girls, particularly in marginalized areas.
The discussion concluded with several recommendations, including expanding awareness workshops, providing premarital counseling for young couples, engaging mosque preachers, and encouraging family dialogue to help combat early marriage.
